Default Justice!

DD1 sent me this. HER ex used her good dressmaker's shears to cut fiberglass insulation batting! She replaced them with Ginghers and told him if he touched them, he'd find them sticking out of his chest.

Her current DH knows to ask which scissors he can use for paper.

I had to lock up my good fabric scissors and my hair cutting ones because DH and the boys would use them for whatever they were doing. I caught them cutting plastic and paper and one time I caught DH trying to cut roofing tin with my good scissors.

Fabric, being generally more pliable than paper or other materials we cut with scissors, is very difficult to cut with dull or nicked scissors. It is also difficult to get an accurate cut, ie. size, shape of fabric required. Dull scissors cause fabric layers to slide.

It was more important not to use fabric scissors with other materials in "the old days", before the new type of blades that are now sold. They seem a bit hardier to me, or maybe sharper.

I prefer a rotary cutter for projects that don't involve curves. Those suckers can take an arm off.

The newer blades are often titanium. The shears that XSIL ruined were carbon steel, and used to be able to cut 10 or 12 layers at once, accurately.

I've conceded defeat. Now I just hide my good sewing shears.

Now, if I could just figure out how to hide my good kitchen knives, I will have won the battle.

I've heard of people who padlock their good scissors so that their family members can't use them for paper, plastic , etc.

Can't help with the knives, though. Maybe a small tackle box or toolbox that can be locked?

I never thought of that. My kids grew up knowing that if my sewing scissors were touched by anyone else but me, the world would end in a rain of hell fire.
