Default Terror Alert: NY, TX, VA - Nov. 4, 2016

Not sure about NY and VA but the scuttlebut says the TX threat is homegrown radical Islamists and Dallas and Houston are on the watch list.

Mount Weather and "Site E" are in VA along with a lot of other places on, and off lists.

Sources: U.S. intel warning of possible al Qaeda attacks in U.S. Monday
CBS News November 4, 2016, 6:20 AM

Last Updated Nov 4, 2016 12:52 PM EDT

NEW YORK -- CBS News has learned about a potential terror threat for the day before the election.

Sources told CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton that U.S. intelligence has alerted joint terrorism task forces that al Qaeda could be planning attacks in three states for Monday.

It is believed New York, Texas and Virginia are all possible targets, though no specific locations are mentioned.

U.S. authorities are taking the threat seriously, though the sources stress the intelligence is still being assessed and its credibility hasn’t been confirmed. Counterterrorism officials were alerted to the threat out of abundance of caution.

“While we do not comment on intelligence matters, we will say the counterterrorism and homeland security communities remain vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States,” a U.S. intelligence official told CBS News. “The FBI and DHS, working with our federal, state and local counterparts, share and assess intelligence on a daily basis and will continue to work closely with law enforcement and intelligence community partners to identify and disrupt any potential threat to public safety.

“As we have long said, in this environment, homegrown violent extremists could strike with little or no notice. Our concern that violent extremists could be inspired to conduct attacks inside the U.S. have not diminished.

“The public should expect to continue to observe an increased law enforcement and security presence across communities in public places. Our law enforcement community also continues to take action against those who attempt to engage in activities that could put Americans at risk. There are more than 100 Joint Terrorism Task Forces at work across the country in partnership with state and local law enforcement to prevent attacks in the homeland.”

The New York Police Department said it was working with intelligence agencies and the Joint Terrorism Task Force, according to the Reuters news agency.

Intelligence about potential threats always increases during holiday seasons and when big events are approaching.

As Election Day nears, federal law enforcement is planning for several worst-case scenarios.

Earlier this week, an alert warned local police of “polling places” being seen as “attractive targets” for “lone wolf”-type attacks by individuals motivated by violent extremist ideologies, sovereign citizen or other extremist activity.

Couldn't be a better time to get maximum media exposure.

Upcoming dates are: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the Presidential Inauguration.

Official statements are soft peddling it as they normally do.

...

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement following the report.

“My office is working with law enforcement officials and we are continuing to monitor the situation in close coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety," stated Gov. Abbott. "Texans should go about their daily lives as usual, but remain vigilant over the next several days and report any suspicious activity to state or local law enforcement. The State of Texas will continue to do everything it can to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.”

U.S. authorities are taking the threat seriously, though the sources stress the intelligence is still being assessed and its credibility hasn’t been confirmed. Counterterrorism officials were alerted to the threat out of abundance of caution.

Texas DPS issued the following statement Friday afternoon:

'While we do not typically discuss security issues, we can say that DPS is constantly in touch with fellow law enforcement and intelligence officials, including our Joint Terrorism Task Force partners. DPS is continually monitoring events involving potential public safety impacts across the state and nation. We can also assure Texans that we adjust our level of vigilance to meet any potential or emerging threats, and will also adjust our security measures as threats warrant.'

A senior FBI official told CBS News, “The counterterrorism and homeland security communities remain vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States. The FBI, working with our federal, state and local counterparts, shares and assesses intelligence on a daily basis and will continue to work closely with law enforcement and intelligence community partners to identify and disrupt any potential threat to public safety.”

NYC Marathon is Sunday BTW.

NYC confirmed as target for potential Election Day eve attack
BY Kenneth Lovett Jennifer Fermino Larry Mcshane

New York City is one of three reported targets for a potential Election Day eve terrorist attack by Al Qaeda jihadists, city officials confirmed Friday.

Mayor de Blasio, speaking Friday on his weekly radio show, said he learned several days ago about the potential Monday terror threat.

Law enforcement officials were trying to determine whether the supposed Al Qaeda plot was legitimate, the mayor said.

“We are still very much assessing the credibility,” said de Blasio. “It is not at all clear how credible this is. We are watching carefully.”

....

“We were already planning an extraordinary police presence for Tuesday,” the mayor said. “New Yorkers should assume Sunday, Monday, Tuesday is going to be a continuum of a high level of police presence.”

The annual New York City Marathon is set for Sunday.

Cuomo said New Yorkers going to vote Tuesday will see “more state police, more National Guard, more soldiers on duty than ever before.”

Yesterday after work & errands, SO & I did some cleaning, planned weekend meals & I told him I was glad to have no fixed plans until work on Tuesday because... wait for it... both Presidential candidates would no doubt be the subject of more bombshells right before the election AND terror in the hopes of aiding either side had a perfect window in which to try something or make people think they're going to do something - just to ratchet up an already tense election or try to influence results.

Hopefully, it's all just chatter patterns & nothing is in the offing.

And come Election Day, there's going to be lots of pictures of heavy police presence at polling places. I can hardly wait to see how the international media captions the pics, and "explains" why people are voting under armed guard.

We've had early voting here for a week now, and it's been very busy, but quiet.

I love early voting when it's properly managed. We went on one of the early voting days during the last federal election. They had a far larger turnout than anticipated though & it made for a long, slow line up. Still, it's nice to have the option so as to more easily manage voting & everything else in life.

We always vote early because we can vote at the courthouse instead of our local polling place. It's at our district VFD, which is about the size of a 2 car garage. So if there's a line, we all end up standing outside and odds are it will be raining.

So we voted last week. It was busy - there were 2 ladies ahead of us. And since there are only 2 voting booths (a table with 3 pieces of metal arranged to form a screen), we had to stand in line for 5 minutes!!

I'm fascinated by the early voting. We have postal voting, which I suppose in essence is the same thing. I signed up because I was often away from work, and failed to unsign as it was simply more convenient.

We have that too, Hollyberry, if you mean that they mail you a ballot, you fill it out and mail it back. They call it absentee ballots. But you have to tell them before every election that you want/need one. Just this year Maryland made it in to the 21st Century and started accepting absentee requests online. They would email or fax you a ballot, but you still have to print it out, vote, and snail-mail it back.

---------- Post added at 09:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:47 PM ----------

And I've heard, but can't confirm, that they don't count the absentee ballots unless there is a really close race and the absentee ballots could make a difference.

Link to the ISIS document reprinted at MEMRI is in the link below.

Terror alert heightened after ISIS U.S. 'voting guide' calls for 'blood' of Muslims, Christians & mothers at polls

WASHINGTON (Christian Examiner) – Just after the FBI and Department of Homeland Security issued a terror alert*for Nov. 7 (the day before the U.S. presidential election), the Islamic State published a voting guide – of sorts.
This one is not about selecting the best candidate. It is aimed at terrifying women, Christians and, interestingly, Muslims who adopt the values of democracy.
Portions of the 7-page publication*from the Islamic State's Al-Hayat Media group were reprinted by the Middle East Media Research Institute*(MEMRI) and its Joint Terrorism Threat Monitor Nov. 5. The vast majority of the writing condemns U.S. Muslims for participating in free elections. It also calls them "apostates" who are pitting their wills against Allah's and says, because they are working against Allah, they should be killed.
