Default Dano's Oscar Predictions 2017

It's that time of year again. 2016 was...
The year of BOATS (Based on a True Story): Hacksaw Ridge, Hidden Figures and Lion.

The year of "Check your privilege": Fences, Hidden Figures and Moonlight.

I saw all films (except Elle) in the major categories. Here are my comments and predictions.

BEST PICTURE

Arrival
Fences
Hacksaw Ridge
Hell or High Water
Hidden Figures
La La Land Will win, though it's musical Hollywood navel-gazing.
Lion
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight Should win-a great screenplay and story in three parts.
=============================
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge
Ryan Gosling, La La Land
Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic
Denzel Washington, Fences Should and will win--Denzel becomes the characters he plays.

=============================
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Isabelle Huppert, Elle
Ruth Negga, Loving
Natalie Portman, Jackie Should and will win--compare her role to actual video footage, and you'll see why.
Emma Stone, La La Land
Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins
=============================
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Mahershala Ali, Moonlight Will win
Jeff Bridges, Hell or High Water
Lucas Hedges, Manchester by the Sea
Dev Patel, Lion
Michael Shannon, Nocturnal Animals Easily the best supporting character of the year--every line is delivered perfectly.
=============================
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Viola Davis, Fences Should and will win
Naomie Harris, Moonlight
Nicole Kidman, Lion
Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures
Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea
