Default Mother-of-one dies of untreatable tick-borne virus that has only affected 5 people in the US

Quote:
Tamela Wilson, 58, was at work in Meramec State Park, MO, she got a tick bite
Within days she became fevery and doctors gave her antibiotics for a UTI
But a week later she was hospitalized, blood tests showed she had Bourbon virus
This virus emerged in the US in 2014, it is untreatable, attacks white blood cells

Obviously mine isn't that severe, but I currently have a tick-borne illness that recurs whenever I go off the ABX. Thus far I've taken two months of doxycycline. stopped last Friday and have the rash again. Dx'd by dermatologist who did not test for type, just treated, which is the current thinking on the subject. I have had easier bleeding and bruising but nothing dramatic. I have 3 patients with similar problems, one of whom has severe joint pain. Another had Ehrlichiosis which never seemed to resolve, so he got chloramphenicol, which usually isn't used in humans in the US. He thinks that cleared it up. I am afraid to take chloramphenicol.

I may rethink finding a nice park to kick back and watch the eclipse!

Given that I live in the country and work outside as much as I do (on the weekends at least) I am always checking myself for ticks. One course of Doxycycline was enough.
