Default Nuclear Winter 2017

A nuclear warhead strike could trigger worldwide climate change, resulting in billions of deaths from drought and famine, chilling study warns

Report found bombs currently held by major powers could spur climate change
Detonation of less than five warheads from the US could cause nuclear drought
And China could bring on the phenomenon with just one 5MT land-based missile
Ash would cause temps and precipitation to drop, leading to drought and famine

Experts warn the repercussions of a blast won’t just be limited to
the site of a nuclear strike – instead, such an event could cause
global devastation. A new report found that warheads of magnitudes
already owned by several major nuclear powers could trigger climate
change

Don't wrestle with a pig. The pig enjoys it and you get muddy.

If this was true life would have ceased to exist decades ago.

Kindly do that experiment first in the Northern Hemisphere .

Thank-you for your cooperation .

Ross, don't you remember "On the Beach?" Fallout doesn't recognize hemispheres.

Below is a simulation of CO2 in the atmosphere . As you can see the CO2
stays mostly in the Northern Hemisphere .

Nuclear winter would be more severe of course but I optimistically like to
assume that most smoke and radio activity would stay in the NH for many
months and possibly up to a year .

Eventually some of it may move south but by then our country will be full of
refugees from the north and if need be I will eat them until the smoke clears .

The simulation changes colour because in spring plant growth starts to
absorb CO2 . ( Dark blue = little CO2 ) .

Interestingly that simulation makes nonsense of our local CO2 measuring
station ( at Cape Grim ) which religiously reports approx the same levels of
CO2 as in the NH . Obviously ridiculous .

I agree with Ross,

Radioactive particles are heavy, most would not make it past the equator

The Tsar Bomba shot way back when came in about 50 megatons (depending on whom you believe) which was the largest single detonation ever made. Granted it was far to the north nevertheless it didn't affect the world much outside of a fairly localized area (as in several hundred kilometers).

Blasting a city could put a lot more smoke in the air than hitting
some rural target .

Just the smoke from vaporised asphalt roads might
Beijing half the world .

When did this idea of the world being in some delicate static harmony that could be brought to unrecoverable ruin with slight changes to conditions come into vogue?
