Default Public Health Agency Of Canada Asks Funeral Homes To Prepare For Pandemics

While Canadian health officials have extensive plans to ensure people survive a future influenza pandemic, they've also made macabre recommendations for the nation's funeral homes for those who don't.

"In a pandemic, each individual funeral home could expect to handle about six months work within a six- to eight-week period," the Public Health Agency of Canada warns on a web page about the management of mass fatalities during a pandemic flu.

"That may not be a problem in some communities, but funeral homes in larger cities may not be able to cope with the increased demand."

One of its recommendations is that funeral homes make advance plans for what to do if their own staff get sick, including making arrangements with volunteers from service clubs or churches to dig graves.

Storage space for corpses could also be a problem, the agency notes, and it says refrigerated trucks or ice rinks could be pressed into service if needed.

why is using ice rinks and refrigerator trucks " macabre recommendations"?
Makes sense to me, dead bodies spread disease besides the flu. Anything to help before burial
Having people or machinery to dig the graves is common sense in a pandemic
This Rob Drinkwater needs to get his head out of his azz and wake up to reality in the case of a pandemic. Death will be everywhere and will need to be dealt with fast

And they're going to have to be mass graves, because it makes no sense to dig lots of little holes instead of one big one.

And what happens when the coffins and grave liners and embalming fluid and all the other apparatus of the modern death industry run out -- and you know that in such a scenario as detailed above, they WILL -- will the authorities suspend the laws that require such things? Will it just be body bags in those mass graves? Or nothing, as in the Black Death?

Golf courses seem to me to be the best location in urban areas for mass graves and funeral pyres.

And in a real pinch and if the deceased were cremated, there would be *A LOT MORE* sand traps

My ex flew in from Australia a few weeks ago for my son's wedding & he had the remnants of it. He was never one to easily catch any flu so it must be something.

Thanx for the heads up.
