Author, with Larry Niven among others. Best prepper/doomer fiction ever, IMHO, Lucifer's Hammer. One of the best scifi alien cultures ever, The Mote In God's Eye.

An altogether fascinating man, raconteur, political commentator, military expert.

Following a short illness that began as a cold, then "the flu".

Lucifer's Hammer! That was the post-apocalyptic novel I couldn't remember! That and Shiva Descending are two of my favorites. RIP, Jerry.
